My latest shawl pattern is being released on Friday, June 30. It’s called Kiwi and has a picot bind off edge. The instructions include an option for a beaded picot bind off (show in the photo above).
The steps for a picot bind off are really quite simple:
- On the edge of the shawl with live stitches, using a knitted cast on, cast on two stitches.
- Bind off six stitches.
- Slide the last stitch back to the lefthand needle.
- Repeat steps 1 – 3.
When you get to the end of your live stitches (in the case of Kiwi, at the point of the triangle shawl), you just continue the above steps but instead of live stitches, you pick up stitches along the slipped stitch edge.
Adding beads brings a bit of sparkle and elevates any design and it’s quite easy.
- Using a crochet hook that is slender enough to fit into your bead, slip a bead onto the hook.
- On step 2 above, knit your first stitch, then slip it off the righthand needle.
- Be sure to hold the stitch securely and using the crochet hook, slip the bead off of the crochet hook and onto the stitch.
- Slip the stitch back to the righthand needle and continue to bind off.
- Repeat.
