It has been a busy summer at Kim Shaffir Designs! I created a a web site, relaunched my newsletter (and switched platforms), knit a baby blanket and lots of socks for my first grandchild (I’m a Grammie!) and ran two test knits for two patterns.
New Pattern
It was so busy that I didn’t get one of those patterns, my first for 2024, launched until last week. Quiet Waters Tee, a drop shoulder tee shirt style sweater worked from the top down in one piece launched on August 28 and can be found on my website and in my Ravelry store.
I designed QWT using what I learned in the Sweater Design Course by Sister Mountain. I love that I can sign in and watch the lessons as often and as many times as I want! The second pattern, Dulaney, will be released next week (after I return from a trip to Boston to watch my Orioles play the Red Sox).
For those who know me from college, you will, I’m sure, find the name of these socks familiar. The inspiration for this design did come from spending time on campus and the name came the address of my alma mater, Goucher College.
It’s a cabled sock pattern worked from the cuff down with a peasant heel. I worked mine without a cable needle but instructions are given for both ways. The sample is worked in Froggit! Yarns Frog Legs fingering, a 75% SW Merino/25% Nylon.
Baby Knits!
I liked the yarn so much, I made my new grandson a pair using it. This pattern is my favorite go-to baby socks and is by Kate Atherley. I can quickly knit up a pair in a weekend. They make great baby shower gifts.
Speaking of baby gifts, here is the blanket I made for my grandson, Jace who was born on July 6.
His parents raise reptiles so I thought a blanket with a snakeskin pattern would be fitting. It’s edged with a leaf pattern on each side. I haven’t decided if I will write it up as a pattern yet. What do you think?
On the needles (and the computer)
I’m working on a sample of a sweater design that will hopefully be released in January 2025. It is a top- down raglan sweater with slipped stitched color stripes. I finished grading the pattern last week and am now writing the pattern and knitting the sample simultaneously.
If all goes as planned (fingers crossed!), I’ll have this ready for my tech editor by the end of September and will be able to run a test knit from October – early January. Wish me luck!
